To design or run experiments on a computer, you must have a complete copy of Inquisit installed. Licenses can be purchased one at a time, in bundles, or for unlimited use within an entire organization. Once you purchase an Inquisit desktop license, you may continue to use the version you purchased for as long as you like. We typically release several updates to a given version, and you may optionally install these updates free of charge. There are no additional fees for subscription, maintenance, or support. When we release a new version of Inquisit, you will have the opportunity to upgrade at a discounted price.

Our goal is to make Inquisit as affordable as possible while bringing in enough funds to continue developing an amazing product that meets the evolving needs of the psychological sciences. To that end, we spend almost all or our resources on engineering rather than sales and marketing. (To be honest, we much prefer software engineering to marketing anyway). If the academic prices are still prohibitive for you, contact us and we'll work something out. The bottom line is that we'd rather have you using our software than not.

Inquisit 3 Desktop Edition has a built-in 30 day evaluation period during which the software is fully functional, even if you haven't purchased any licenses. To take advantage of the evaluation period, simply download and install Inquisit. The 30 day clock starts ticking once the software has been installed. When the evaluation period expires, Inquisit will continue to allow you to run scripts, but data is no longer recorded. If after evaluating our software you decide to purchase a license, there is no need to reinstall the software. You can simply register your copy of Inquisit and full functionality will be restored.

We offer the free evaluation period so that you can be certain Inquisit meets your needs before initiating the purchasing process. While it's possible to use the evaluation period to conduct actual research and classroom demonstrations, we hope you'll honor the spirit in which the free trial is offered and purchase a license if you are using Inquisit to do real work.

If you will be using Inquisit on a fixed number of lab or personal computers, purchasing individual licenses is likely the best option. If you are purchasing licenses for multiple computers, you would purchase a "primary" license and then pay a lower price for each subsequent license. The lower "additional" license rate applies whether you purchase the additional licenses together with the primary license or in a separate order placed sometime in the future. Licenses can be transferred to other computers if, for example, your hard drive crashes or you upgrade your equipment.

If you purchase 10 or more Inquisit desktop licenses in a single order, you qualify for a 10% discount off of the academic price. To calculate the discounted price, just add up the total cost of the primary and additional licenses and take 10% off.

If you purchase 20 or more Inquisit desktop licenses in a single order, you qualify for a 20% discount off of the total price. To calculate the discounted price, just add up the total cost of the primary and additional licenses and take 20% off.

A departmental site license grants unlimited use of Inquisit for everyone in an academic department. Members are free to install Inquisit on any computer owned by the department as well as their own personal computers. One or more representatives from the department serve as the primary contact for the account and are responsible for distributing registration keys to other members as needed. In addition, departments can submit a range of IP Addresses that have been allocated to the department so that Inquisit is registered automatically on any computer within that range. As usage of Inquisit spreads within your department, the departmental site license is a great way for researchers to pool resources and save money.

A campus wide site license grants unlimited use of Inquisit for an entire university or college. If three or more departments want unlimited use of Inquisit, the Campus Site License is the most affordable option. Management of the license works the same as for the Departmental Site License (see above).
