If you have access to a web server, you can set up a web experiment for
purposes of evaluating Inquisit 3 Web Edition. In evaluation mode, Inquisit 3 Web
Edition is fully functional and works exactly as if it were running a registered
web script, with two exceptions:
- When the script is launched, a popup window will appear indicating that the script
is not registered.
- Data from the session will not be saved. However, you can evaluate the data output using Inquisit Desktop Edition,
which saves data in exactly the same format as Inquisit Web Edition.
Once you purchase a web license and register a script, the popup window will no
longer appear, and the data will be saved to the Millisecond server, where you can
access it by logging into your Millisecond account. Your account will also give you
access to our script registration tools for easily publishing
your experiments to millisecond.com or your own web server.
To evaluate Inquisit 3 Web Edition, follow these steps:
- Create a script with Inquisit that you would like to test, or download a script from our
Task Library.
- Change the file extension of your script from *.exp to *.txt. The reason for doing this is that
most web servers will not allow files with an extension of *.exp to be downloaded
unless they are explicitly configured to do so.
- Click on this link to open up a sample
launch web page in your browser.
- Save the launch web page to your computer.
- Open the launch web page in a simple text editor such as Notepad. Do NOT open the page
in Microsoft Word because it will mangle the HTML and Javascript required for the
page to function properly.
- In the section at the top of the launch page marked "ENTER YOUR CONFIGURATION VALUES BELOW",
change the value of the "ScriptPath" variable to the URL on your server where your
Inquisit script file from Step 1 will be located. Be sure to include the quotes around the URL. Save your changes.
- Upload the launch web page and your Inquisit script file to your server, making
sure the URL to the script file is the same one you entered in the previous step. If your script uses pictures or other media files, be sure to upload those as well.
- Open your web browser and navigate to the launch page on your server. Follow instructions
on the launch page to start the experiment.
