Does Inquisit run on the Mac?

It might work on a Mac running a Windows emulator such as Virtual PC. However, we do not support or test Inquisit on the Mac.

How do I uninstall the Inquisit 2.0 Web Control from a desktop machine?

Internet Explorer users:

The Inquisit ActiveX Control will be installed in one of two places depending on whether the user opted to run the exe installer or use Internet Explorer's built in ActiveX installer.

If installed via Internet Explorer:

  1. Click Start->My Computer.
  2. Expand your Windows drive (usually "C"), and navigate to "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files".
  3. If the Inquisit 2.0 ActiveX Control appears in the list, right click it and select "Uninstall".

If installed via the exe:

  1. Open a Windows command prompt by selecting Start->Run, entering "cmd", and pressing OK.
  2. Navigate to the system directory by typing "cd c:\windows\system32".
  3. Unregister the control by typing the following command: "regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\Millisecond Software\Inquisit 2.0 ActiveX Control\InquisitAx.dll"".
  4. Delete the control by typing the following command: "del "C:\Program Files\Millisecond Software\Inquisit 2.0 ActiveX Control\InquisitAx.dll"".

Firefox and Netscape users:

  1. Browse to your Firefox or Netscape program files directory, for example C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ or C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape Browser\
  2. Open the "plugins" subdirectory and delete npInquisit_*.dll and npInquisit_*.xpt.
  3. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\Millisecond Software\Inquisit 2.0 Mozilla Plugin\".

A participant reported that they were unable to run my web experiment. What is the problem?

To run an Inquisit web experiment, the following requirements must be met.

  1. The computer must be running Windows. Mac and Linux are not supported.
  2. The user must be using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape as their browser.
  3. The user must either be logged into the computer with admin privileges, or the computer must have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed. If niether of these conditions is true, the experiment won't run.

  4. Login to the registration page.
  5. On the registration page, select the version of Inquisit you are using and enter the computer key that you copied down previously. Click the "Get Registraion Key" button.
  6. Copy down the registration key that the page provides.
  7. Return to the computer you wish to register and enter the registration key in the Inquisit registration window.

Licensing

Can I transfer my licenses to a different computer if my hard drive crashes or I replace my computer?

Yes, simply fill out our transfer request form online. We'll then credit your account with additional keys for use in the transfer. If the previous machine is still functional, please uninstall the old copy before registering Inquisit on the new computer.

I purchased Inquisit some time ago, and I wish to purchase more licenses. Do I need to pay for another primary license?

No, once you've purchased a primary license, any future licenses purchased under your account will be billed at the less expensive "Additional License" rate.

Someone else at my university is using Inquisit. Can I purchase licenses at the "Additional License" rate, or must I also purchase a "Primary License"?

If you wish to share an account with colleagues at your institution, then you need only pay the additional license rate. Your shared account will have a single set of login credentials for viewing account details and accessing a shared pool of registration keys.

You can have your own account if you purchase a primary license. Any future licenses would be billed at the additional license rate.

Another option is to purchase an institutional site license. For a price quote, contact .

I have an older version of Inquisit 2.0 installed. How do I update to a newer version of Inquisit 2.0?

To update to a later version of 2.x, all you need to do is uninstall the older version, then download and install the newer version. You will not need to re-register Inquisit, and the update is free.
