Hello,

We are trying to get the RB-834 response pad to function with inquisit but need to know the corresponding number for each button.

In the Inquisit help page it says that the exact value given by each button will be between 0 and 255. It says to test it by using the responsemode = anyresponse in the experiment and pressing each button in turn, then look at the output and determine which button is which value.

However we have done this and pressed each button but in the response column in output the value is 0 for each button.

Any advice?

Many thanks,

Shiv

Hello,

Yes we had read those but wanted to use com rather than xid.

We also found the scripts given didn't work.

Necessary configurations for both COM and XID are detailed in the Inquisit documentation:  http://www.millisecond.com/support/docs/v3/html/howto/cedrus.htm.

Hi,

We have already configured it to com3 (and that is definitely the port we're using) and to 9600 baud rate so the pins are

1: Up
2: Up
3: Up
4: Down

and Inquisit recognises that the buttons however we still can't get any values in the 'response' column to tell us what number corresponds to what button on the response box.

It isn't recording individual values for each response in the data file, just 0's in every row (even though we pressed the different buttons).

I've attached what we are getting in our data files.

Any help will be muchly appreciated - this seems to be our last hurdle!

Hello,

We've had several difficulties logging in to these forums since our queries yesterday - it says our account has been blocked.

We have now answered our query with the help of cedrus. In case other people have the same query as us here is the answer:

For RB-834 button boxes use the XID mode (where the box itself collects the reaction time rather than the computer).

To use this all 4 switches need to be set to DOWN and inputdevice needs to be XID1 (or whichever port you are using)

Then to figure out the number codes for each button (in this case there are 8 buttons) you need to run some test experiments with responsemode = anyresponse.

In turn press each of the 8 buttons for 8 trials and then look at the data output. In the ''response" column there will be 8 values. In our case they were:

176, 48, 80, 208, 240, 112, 144, 16

But they may be different for each button box. We checked this several times until we were confident of the numbers for the buttons we were using. Then we replaced the numbers in our script...

example trial:

<trial fcompassionleft_rightN_target1>

/ pretrialpause = 500

/ stimulustimes = [1= focuspoint; 500 = blank; 1000=fcompassionleft02,fneutralrightcomp02; 1500 = blank; 2000= replace(target1right)]

/ inputdevice = XID3

/ responsetime = 2000

/ validresponse = (144, 112)

/correctresponse = (144)

/ posttrialpause = 180

</trial>

Hope this helps

Shiv and Lucy

That's odd. I certainly haven't blocked your account,  and to my knowledge, the forums software we use doesn't automatically block anyone. I also checked your old account and it seems fine.

Anyway, sorry for any inconvenience, and thank you for posting your solution.
