Hello,

I am using the noreplacenorepeat function and still my stimuli (picture primes and text questions) are being repeatedly presented. What am I doing wrong? My script is pasted below. I'd be very grateful for your insight.

Thank you!

You have 82 trials sampled from 15 elements in equal proportions. 82 / 15 = 5.466667. Your math does not check out.

You need to start thinking about when you are sampling from what and how often you do so.

Also: How have you determined that stims are repeated which shouldn't be? Equal numbers in your trialdata columns do not necessarily refer to the same stimulus, they refer to the item number in the elements used in the given trial.

I've seen the same stimuli presented numerous times when I play the experiment. I've adjusted the number of trials so that they are in equal proportion to the elements. However, the problem persists. I've pasted my adjusted script below. Would you please let me know if there's anything else that I'm doing wrong? Thanks so much for all your help!

Shona,

again: How do you determine that stims are repeated? Look at your data file and check which ones that are and in what trials. Then work out the numbers, i.e., how often are you sampling from what elements and how many items are available in the respective element.

For example, the experiment calls for 6 practice trials. There are 3 different types of practice trial text questions: practice_RW_textquestions, practice_LW_textquestions, and practice_random_textquestions. There are 2 different text questions of each type so there should be no repeats. However, nearly every time that I play the study, a text question is repeated. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Shona

Look at you script:

<text practice_RW_textquestions>

/size = (75%, 75%)

/items = practice_RW_textquestions

/position = (50%, 50%)

/halign = center

/select = noreplacenorepeat

/selectionrate = always

</text>

<text practice_LW_textquestions>

/size = (75%, 75%)

/items = practice_RW_textquestions

/position = (50%, 50%)

/halign = center

/select = noreplacenorepeat

/selectionrate = always

</text>

<text practice_random_textquestions>

/size = (75%, 75%)

/items = practice_RW_textquestions

/position = (50%, 50%)

/halign = center

/select = noreplacenorepeat

/selectionrate = always

</text>

You are sampling from the same items in every element. Of course stuff is going to repeat.

Actually, that didn't seem to fix the problem. I've pasted my new script below. Do you have any idea why my text items and picture stimuli are still being repeatedly presented?

Thanks so much!
