The CATS and CATS-R were created by: Sarah G. Schaffer, PhD Karen B. Froming, PhD Amanda L. Gregory, PhD C. Michael Levy, PhD Paul Ekman, PhD Reference for Means and Standard Deviations used to calculate z-scores: Emotion Processing: The Comprehensive Affective Testing System. User Manual. Published 2006 by Psychology Software Inc ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TASK DESCRIPTION ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ subtest10: CONFLICTING PROSODY—ATTEND TO MEANING Participants listen to 12 sentences spoken in either a happy, sad or neutral voice and have to identify the affective meaning of the sentence content ignoring the emotion with which the sentence is communicated. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DURATION ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ the default set-up of the script takes appr. 2 minutes to complete ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DATA FILE INFORMATION ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The default data stored in the data files are: (1) Raw data file: 'catsr_subtest10_raw*.iqdat' (a separate file for each participant)* build: The specific Inquisit version used (the 'build') that was run computer.platform: the platform the script was run on (win/mac/ios/android) date, time: date and time script was run subject, group: with the current subject/groupnumber session: with the current session id subtest: "subtest10" //if the subtest is run via a batch script that collects gender/age/taskOrder information: age: the age of the participant gender: Female; Male; Other taskOrder: the selected task order blockcode, blocknum: the name and number of the current block (built-in Inquisit variable) trialcode, trialnum: the name and number of the currently recorded trial (built-in Inquisit variable) Note: trialnum is a built-in Inquisit variable; it counts all trials run; even those that do not store data to the data file. trialCount: trial counter subtest10_testitem: the index of the selected image testitem: the presented audio file correctResponse: the dedicated correct response: 1 = happy 2 = sad 4 = neutral selectedResponse: happy, sad, neutral correct: accuracy of response: 1 = correct response; 0 = otherwise RT: cumulative response latency: measured from onset of image until 'nextButton' is pressed (2) Summary data file: 'catsr_subtest10_summary*.iqdat' (a separate file for each participant)* inquisit.version: Inquisit version run computer.platform: the platform the script was run on (win/mac/ios/android) startDate: date script was run startTime: time script was started subjectid: assigned subject id number groupid: assigned group id number sessionid: assigned session id number elapsedTime: time it took to run script (in ms); measured from onset to offset of script completed: 0 = script was not completed (prematurely aborted); 1 = script was completed (all conditions run) subtest: "subtest10" //if the subtest is run via a batch script that collects gender/age/taskOrder information: age: the age of the participant gender: Female; Male; Other taskOrder: the selected task order T10_rawscore: the number of correct responses in subtest10 T10_rawscore_corrected: the number of correct responses in subtest10, corrected (Note: in this subtest rawscores get corrected for Male Participants over the age of 59 by +2 to rawscore) T10_zscore: the z-score for the corrected T10_rawscore (z-scores get calculated based on overall Mean and standard deviation) T10_propCorrect: proportion correct responses in subtest10 T10_RT: mean response time (in ms) in subtest10; measured from onset of image until 'nextButton' is pressed T10_corrRT: mean response time (in ms) of CORRECT responses in subtest10; measured from onset of image until 'nextButton' is pressed + results from individual questions * separate data files: to change to one data file for all participants (on Inquisit Lab only), go to section "DATA" and follow further instructions ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EXPERIMENTAL SET-UP ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1 Testblock of 12 trials - 6 sentences with a happy* meaning - 6 sentences with a sad meaning The order of the statements is predetermined. Participants can select from 3 emotion buttons. Responses can be changed until 'next' is pressed. If button 'repeat' is pressed, the statements get repeated. Note: By setting parameters.showAdvanceButton to true, a '?'-button appears in the upper right corner. If pressed, the next scheduled test item is skipped. * The original CATS-R scores the meaning of sentence 'the movie was uplifting' (T10_9) as 'neutral'. Millisecond's version scores the meaning of this sentence as 'happy' instead. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ STIMULI ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ can be edited under section Editable Stimuli ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ INSTRUCTIONS ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ provided by Millisecond Software - can be edited under section Editable Instructions ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EDITABLE CODE ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ check below for (relatively) easily editable parameters, stimuli, instructions etc. Keep in mind that you can use this script as a template and therefore always "mess" with the entire code to further customize your experiment.
