The CATS and CATS-R were created by: Sarah G. Schaffer, PhD Karen B. Froming, PhD Amanda L. Gregory, PhD C. Michael Levy, PhD Paul Ekman, PhD Reference for Means and Standard Deviations used to calculate z-scores: Emotion Processing: The Comprehensive Affective Testing System. User Manual. Published 2006 by Psychology Software Inc ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TASK DESCRIPTION ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ subtest13: THREE FACES TEST Participants are presented 3 faces (different actors of the same gender); two of which depict the same emotion. Participants are asked to select the two faces that show the same emotion. (24 trials) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DURATION ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ the default set-up of the script takes appr. 2 minutes to complete ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DATA FILE INFORMATION ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The default data stored in the data files are: (1) Raw data file: 'catsr_subtest13_raw*.iqdat' (a separate file for each participant)* build: The specific Inquisit version used (the 'build') that was run computer.platform: the platform the script was run on (win/mac/ios/android) date, time: date and time script was run subject, group: with the current subject/groupnumber session: with the current session id subtest: "subtest13" //if the subtest is run via a batch script that collects gender/age/taskOrder information: age: the age of the participant gender: 1 = female; 2 = male; 999 = other taskOrder: the selected task order blockcode, blocknum: the name and number of the current block (built-in Inquisit variable) trialcode, trialnum: the name and number of the currently recorded trial (built-in Inquisit variable) Note: trialnum is a built-in Inquisit variable; it counts all trials run; even those that do not store data to the data file. trialCount: trial counter subtest13_testitem: the index of the selected image testitem: the presented image correctResponse: the dedicated correct response (= correct image from left (1) to right (3)) Example:23 => image2 and image3 are the correct selections selectedResponse: 12, 13, 23 correct: accuracy of response: 1 = correct response; 0 = otherwise RT: cumulative response latency: measured from onset of image until 'nextButton' is pressed (2) Summary data file: 'catsr_subtest13_summary*.iqdat' (a separate file for each participant)* inquisit.version: Inquisit version run computer.platform: the platform the script was run on (win/mac/ios/android) startDate: date script was run startTime: time script was started subjectid: assigned subject id number groupid: assigned group id number sessionid: assigned session id number elapsedTime: time it took to run script (in ms); measured from onset to offset of script completed: 0 = script was not completed (prematurely aborted); 1 = script was completed (all conditions run) subtest: "subtest13" //if the subtest is run via a batch script that collects gender/age/taskOrder information: age: the age of the participant gender: 1 = female; 2 = male; 999 = other taskOrder: the selected task order T13_rawscore: the number of correct responses in subtest13 T13_rawscore_corrected: the number of correct responses in subtest13, corrected (Note: in this subtest rawscores get corrected for Males under 40 and for Males over 59 by +2 to rawscore) T13_zscore: the z-score for the corrected T13_rawscore (z-scores get calculated based on Age Means: age < 40 = age group 20-39 41 < age < 60 = age group 40-59 60 > age = age group 60-79 (if no age is provided the population mean and standard deviation is used) T13_propCorrect: proportion correct responses in subtest13 T13_RT: mean response time (in ms) in subtest13; measured from onset of image until 'nextButton' is pressed T13_corrRT: mean response time (in ms) of CORRECT responses in subtest13; measured from onset of image until 'nextButton' is pressed + results from individual questions * separate data files: to change to one data file for all participants (on Inquisit Lab only), go to section "DATA" and follow further instructions ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EXPERIMENTAL SET-UP ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1 Testblock of 24 trials - XXX The order of the statements is predetermined. Participants can select any of the 5 face options. Responses can be changed until 'next' is pressed. If button 'repeat' is pressed, the statements get repeated. Note: By setting parameters.showAdvanceButton to true, a '?'-button appears in the upper right corner. If pressed, the next scheduled test item is skipped. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ STIMULI ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ can be edited under section Editable Stimuli ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ INSTRUCTIONS ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ provided by Millisecond Software - can be edited under section Editable Instructions ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EDITABLE CODE ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ check below for (relatively) easily editable parameters, stimuli, instructions etc. Keep in mind that you can use this script as a template and therefore always "mess" with the entire code to further customize your experiment.
