Background

This script implements a computerized version of the Measure of Sexual Identity Exploration and Commitment (MOSIEC) by Worthington et al (2008). The MOSIEC evaluates the psychological processes (4 subscales) involved in sexual identity development. and is intended for persons of any (emerging) sexual orientation.

Description

25 questions on a 6-point Likert Scale, self report,

Four independent subscales:

Exploration (8 items): Measures a person's active efforts, past, present, or future, to learn about their sexual needs and experiment with or explore their sexuality.

Commitment (6 items): Assesses how firmly a person has established, adopted, and defined their own sexual identity and values.

Synthesis / Integration (5 items): Measures how harmoniously a person's sexual orientation, values, and behavioral expressions blend into their overall, unified sense of self.

Sexual Orientation Identity Uncertainty (3 items): Gauges the lack of clarity or explicit confusion a person experiences regarding their specific sexual orientation.

commitment Firmness of sexual identity committment (q10, q11, q15R, q16R, q18R, q20)
The higher the score, the firmer and stable the commitment to one's sexual identity
synthesis Integration of sexual orientation into sense of self (q4, q7, q13, q17, q22)
The higher the score, the more integrated the sexual identity into the self
sexualOrientation Clarity on sexual identity (q1R, q14, q21)
The higher the score, the LESS clarity on sexual identity has been achieved
